About Dr Collinson

I am a consultant cardiologist with more than 10 years experience based at the Chelsea and Westminster and the Royal Brompton Hospitals.

I completed my undergraduate training at King’s College Hospital and completed general training in Manchester.  I trained in cardiology in London, mainly at the world-famous cardiac centres at the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals.

I was awarded an MD in 2000 after completing research into the epidemiology and management of acute coronary syndromes at the Royal Brompton and the University of London.

I have been been the clinical lead for cardiology at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and am currently their Clinical Director for Medical Specialities.

As well as being interested in non-invasive cardiology, including heart failure, Dr Collinson’s specialist interests are in interventional cardiology (angioplasty and stent insertion) and the implantation of pacemakers (including biventricular devices) and defibrillators in the treatment of heart failure and sudden death syndrome.  His main research interests are in the management of acute coronary syndromes, heart failure and valvular heart disease: he has published in peer-review journals on these subjects and has contributed to publications on angina and heart failure.

Specialist Interests

Percutaneous coronary intervention

I have performed over 2000 PCI procedures in the elective and emergency setting.  I was heavily involved in leading the development of the interventional service at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and contribute to the service at the Royal Brompton Hospital.  I am proficient in the important interventional techniques, such as pressure wires.  I developed the daycase radial pathway at the Royal Brompton and the majority of my procedures are performed by this approach.

Device therapy (pacemakers, ICDs and CRT)

I set up a comprehensive device service at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.  I introduced daycase pacemaker (and ICD) implantation there.  I also set up the pacemaker follow-up service.

I have performed several thousand device implants of all kinds.

Syncope

I am the lead for syncope at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.  I have long experience on reporting tilt tests (for the diagnosis of vasovagal syncope and POTS) and lead on the service at the hospital.  I also have extensive experience in the use of implantable loop recorders (ILRs) for the diagnosis of these symptoms.
